I'm all for claiming your side....
I ride 700x26c tires which are quite broad for a road bike but still, riding on sand is always a sphincter-tightening experience.
I always avoid going off road unless that is the only way to avoid an accident.

Also for different uses.
A cheaper alternative without the large screen, it is like a low rez PDF picture of the paper map and the off road trails in red are not that clear.
The track function for off road use is excellent.
