For me when the writer makes me smile at the ending than its romance but when i am laughing at it then it is not.
If it has a happy ever after ending, then it's a romance.

Have to say was gonna not romance a yoman after ME2, but liked Samantha's charachter straight off, so my FemShep romanced her in my single play through. Thought she was way better than Kelly, who was my romance in my first ME2 play.
