I want my sharepoint site to allow a user to search content in a known collection of RSS feeds. I figure conceptually a few ways to do this
crawl the feeds at their source (Yikes!) Pull the full articles into my sharepoint site, then let my crawler crawl...

The rss feed xml, I suspect you could do that every hour without annoying anyone.

How would you solve this problem?
You're scraping HTML of blogs. Some of the HTML of a blog is blog posts, some of it is formatting, sidebars, etc. You want to be able to tell what text in the HTML belongs to which post (i.e. a permalink) if any.

This would be the basis of taking an RSS feed in the official RSS).
RSS is actually quite simple to parse using XPath any XML parser (or regexes, etc etc and put it into fairly sensible RSS/Atom item.

While I know blogs like Wordpress uses RSSCloud & PubSubHubbub has it's own methods for real-time feeds, is there a way to tell from a regular RSS feed URL if it's RSSCloud 'enabled'?
Right now Twitter feeds sort of fill the real-time gap until RSSCloud...

Following some background research here & here it would seem RSS....
Uses SOAP or XML-RPC.
This became available in the 0.92 spec of RSS.
Or .rss file there will be a <cloud> element in the markup.

Your best bet would be to see if any of the big RSS aggregators offer lists of feeds, and certainly not for free!

You'll never be able to get a complete list of all RSS feeds on the Internet.

I get a URL from a user. I need to know:
a) is the URL a valid RSS feed?
b) if not is there a valid feed associated with that URL
using PHP/Javascript or something similar
