NASA people may pray -- I'm sure many did back in 1970 when Apollo 13 was... .
In spite of the previous response, NASA is still working -- they just don't have a heavy lift or man-rated launch system at the present time, after terminating the shuttle system .

The point of the support stuff (satellites, SDBs, BRs etc, would required hundreds of satellites.....
I think it would be a neat idea having grand satellites, or hell even space buildings akin, and impactors aren't that much better.
