The Schengen-"System" is the most unpredictable visa-blackbox you can imagine, so all that remains 4-years I have gotten at least 3-4 Schengen visas, all multiple entries & valid for 6-months a year.

I just picked up my passport from VFS London today evening, I applied for a schengen visa to the Netherlands, and it seems some moron from the Visa office pasted someone else's schengen visa on my passport.

Depends on a number of factors:
Do you have a track record of multiple visits within Schengen?
How one for the duration of your trip.
