Can average surfboards be used for stand up paddle surfing? I've been seeing some surfboards selling pretty cheaply on my local craigslist and even though there is (sadly) no surf anywhere near my part of the US, I am considering buying one to use for...

I wouldn't use a surfboard because it could create cracks.
Paddle boards are much thicker and longer.
Windsurfers can make a good alternate SUP - you definately couldn't use a surfboard though.
