I heard a pretty lousy cover of Carol King's classic It's Too Late in the supermarket today. Do singers who cover classics really think they're bettering the original? When UB40 did Red Red Wine they punched it up in their own great way and made something new of it. What's with these hokey, cloying singers copying the original verbatim and adding their own whining vocal meanderings, as if they've touched all bases of the original but injected it with more soul or feeling. Seriously, has anyone ever heard a cover that basically stayed true to the original but where the singer and arrangement were better? I'm not talking about covers that gave a complete overhaul arrangement-wise or beat-wise, just these 'connect-the-dots' covers. source

I think Belushi sounds different on "Gimme Some Lovin'" just because the studio version of the song on the albmu is a bit too polished and overproduced, IMO. It's always been my least favorite track on the soundtrack, though I LOVE the "live" version in the movie itself, so much more raw and powerful! source
