A simple method for map is to accumulate the items... .
Map doesn't support this.
The list container supports deletion during enumeration by returning a new iterator from the erase method that represents the next item in the list .
It depends on the container.

I'd clean it with something....
I would use something less harsh than brake cleaner--it could damage the plastic gears within the mast/motor .
Living in the mountains of Colorado and snow covered dirt roads for several years I would also have this problem .
