US Skins and UK Skins have been battling for popularity ever since US Skins aired, but which version do you like better? I personally like the British version best . What's your opinion?

As for Skins, I've only seen the American version.

It's on MTV The US Skins will NEVER COMPARE to the UK Skins .

a) But aren’t skins only used in combination with themes, thus isn’t a skin inseparable part of a theme?

The skins allow some freedom.
You can have just one theme, with multiple skins for that theme.
A theme includes one or more skins and CSS.
It's the de facto standard.
Don't use either: use CSS.

I am working on a fairly large aspx web project with extensive use of asp:GridViews
I'd like to use CSS to define in one place how all gridviews will look, by default.
As far as I understand, one way of doing this is via "Skins" in Visual Studio....but...

You defined on the gridview, you can use the global skin to assign a css class so you can style that as well.
I don't know much about VS Skins but I've styled plenty of gridviews this way.
