I recently purchased a nice asus 1000HE, and installed Ubuntu NBR. However, I'm pretty disappointed with how sluggish it feels. I'm wondering if I maybe need to install a closed-source graphics driver - it feels similar to how my work laptop performed...

Edit: Found out that this happens even though Cufon isn't even applied! Edit2: My bad, looks like Cufon is creating the slowless afterall. However, removing the line where I replace the menuwrapper font style with Cufon still results in sluggish behaviour...

Getting nowhere....
Margin-top:10px; /* down it by 10 pixels */
Just have to lay this one dead I guess .

I've since overwritten this installation....
I found that the problem was either the wireless networking or ethernet networking .
I would start with running prstat (top) to see if you can determine if there is a specific process that is causing the slowdown .

Hello all,
I am trying to build a small application that logins into a server and gathers data from it constantly. The problem that I am having is that my GUI is slow to respond even when using either background worker or a thread. When my application...

There is a library I can't recall off ....
Also, your thread is on the same cpu/core as the app (same process) so if it uses 100% then even with a lowered priority you might notice a difference .
Try setting Thread.Priority to something lower than the GUI.

I like ReSharper, but it is a total memory hog. It can quickly swell up and consume a half-gig of RAM without too much effort and bog down the IDE. Does anybody know of any way to configure it to be not as slow?

Now with 4.1 i do not feel the huge slow down i used ... .
Turn off the on-the-fly compilation (which, unfortunately, is one of its best features)
In previous versions I had the same problem, when 4.0 came out these problems have seemed to have gone away .

Mine looks like this:
Note: this is from a Windows version,... .
Try messing with your eclipse.ini file to optimise things (located in your Eclipse installation directory) .
Eclipse switches to a more appropriate GUI API between 3.4 and 3.5 .
Switch to 3.5.

Have seen similar threads like this before....they said it was because the VZ was drive-by-wire or fly-by-wire?...something along those lines that delays the acceleration....or your car could just have all sorts of other issues...that's the main explanation... .
