An HTML5 offline app would have security issues....
I can't tell you too much about HTML apps in general, but I can tell you that the API for the UIWebView is extremely minimal, and of course there is much less you can do than in a native iPhone application .

If I understood your problem correctly, ....
SELECT stuff FROM Items as i INNER JOIN item_properties as ip ON i.id = ip.item_id WHERE ip.prop_id IN (123, 456) AND ip.prop_id NOT IN (789, 101)
It's NOT TESTED, but that the kind of thing I tend to do a lot .

Current Bike Magazine (UK publication) ranks the F800 ST in top ten of the 25 "smartest" bikes to buy. If memory serves correct, ranking was #6 or 7. Only other Beemer listed was the R series GS which I believe came in at #2.
