With the upcoming solar eclipse and transit of Venus, I think it's time to equip myself with the right tools for solar viewing so I can be safe for these upcoming events.
I have an Orion 150mm Mak and Orion sells a 7.52" solar filter that fits this scope...

I've read/heard that it is safe to use welding goggles to view the transit(provided they are of the correct rating).firstly, is this correct and if so is it possible to make a solar filter using a goggle lens on the small aperture hole on the lens cover...
