Is it always a good idea to put steel base with steel ring? Or can you miss match the steel with alum?

I would trust JonA's take on it, though, could you update? You're correct alum can go on steel or titanium bases.
Aluminum rings are GTG on both steel and aluminum bases, but steel rings should go on steel bases.

Alternate Heating Systems offer a stainless steel [304] option for the steel inside the boiler. I think the stainless option is about another $1200. What is the pros and cons of stainless steel? Is it worth the extra money? Thanks

I am on a well of SS are that it stands up to condensation and acid from the fire side much better than carbon steel, and will last much longer with oxygen in....
Different people have different water quality.
Than carbon steel in a boiler.

Help!! I need an answer! Which is better stainlee steel or the regular steel for a 1911 pistol? I have a Taurus 1911 alloy and wor it out. I shoot about 5000-8000 rds a year. I need a new pistol and at this point I'm not sure. Comments would be appreciated...

It seems that (for a number of varied reasons) when we talk about semi-auto pistols, most people will agree that Carbon Steel pistols are superior to Stainless Steel ones.
How about revolvers? In your opinion, is there a good reason to favor one material...

I can appreciate a nice polished blue revolver with walnut grips, but I know that my skin eats carbon steel for lunch.
All my steel guns are stainless or have a coating of some kind.

If a guy was going to build his own targets to practice for the steel challenge rimfire what thickness would I need? Would AR400 1/4 be thick enough?

We did a steel test last night and the 3/8 A36 steel held up real well up to a 357 Mag after that we tried....
I will keep all posted.
I have shot 22LR & 9mm on them and they have been more than .
Of A36 carbon steel plate ; 3/8" thick.

Having looked at it on the Spyderco 2011 steel chart, it looks like it should perform a lot like a blade steel as difficult to reprofile....
Going by previous threads about it, it's supposed to be Carpenter Steel's version of Japanese GIN-1.

But I see no reason why the mild steel won't do it's job, it's the one i bought! Just want the mild steel to last a good time if I choose that path, I drive it daily well alot and wondering if the ss option would be better then the mild....

Tele w/ a McVay g bender, so I doubt that qualifies me for lap or pedal steel classifications/ Charlie McVay and he can really tear it up on a pedal steel....
