bobn2 recommends using a superzoom instead of a dslr for "decent" dof, whatever that might be.

I have a SX40, and am quite pleased with the results that it and I are able to get.
So I was just curious to know if anyone here uses their superzoom (any super tele P&S and any brand) as their main, or actually only, camera? If you feel you need more...

If I did not already have some long lenses and some dSLR's I would probably pick the Nikon P510 with a 42x optical zoom and of course a sturdy tripod and spotting scope

I have a question that has long puzzled me. I've fallen in love with Fujifilm's new X-S1 - but would like to have a larger sensor. Why is it that no one has made a super zoom camera with a sensor in APS-C size? Is it Because of technical challenges, or...

Price up a really good dslr....
Can someone solve the mystery for me?
Simple, the superzoom can have its lens precise.
Tiny lenses are simply much easier to design and cheaper and a true DSLR killer .
Interchangeable lenses w/a superzoom range.

I just ordered an SX40 as a birthday gift for a family member to use mostly for wildlife and scenery. But it's a "bag" camera and, for myself, I am considering a travel camera the size of my SD850 that I can carry on my belt.
A few years ago, 4x was conidered...

I have wondered whether the SX260 is genuinely an upgrade from the SX230 as well .
I have both an SX40 and an SX230 and find them both quite satisfactory for my needs for this type camera .
I'd really like to know the same thing, Arkie.

Good superzoom camera's with zoom ring? I've been looking for a superzoom for a few months now and have come across a lot but i've noticed that hardly any of them have a manual zoom ring. This is something i really look for in a camera and the only 3 ...

But for the price of an HS20/30 you could get a pretty decent second hand DSLR. .
I think it's only Fujifilm that does this, and you can add the X-S1 to the list too .

I was visiting a Nikon forum and came across an interesting comparison between the Nikon P510 superzoom and the well-regarded D7000 paired with the Nikon 70-300VR. The superzoom held its own quite well.
As one poster (Greystone Fotog) said, "The real ...

I had been looking at the P510's posted images here for the past few weeks, and I must say, they are very good at the tele-end (and throughout the range too) .
Yes, very interesting thread, I had read it before seeing your thread .

Leica offers V-Lux40 20X 14MP compact superzoom
Leica has released the V-Lux40, a 14MP, 20X compact superzoom camera. It is the second V-Lux model to feature GPS and appears to very closely resemble the Panasonic DMX-TZ30/ZS20. This gives it a 24-480mm...
