Relabeling can be destructive, but if the tapes aren't being used the Overwrite Protect and Append settings....
Media labels match the physical labels on the tapes? You can check this through the Netbackup Admin that it refuses to write to.
I use Quantum DLT-S4 tapes (800/1600GB) in my library, which has two Quantum tape heads in it. I have had quite a few bad tapes i.e. tapes that come up "CRC error" or "cannot read tape" etc and the backup software marks them as bad. I've sent back around...

And have only had one tape fail - it was physically dropped though.
Apparently LTO-4 drives can both read and write LTO-3 tapes. Are these tapes fully compatible with LTO-3 drives? I'm interested in real life experience more than theoretical vendor-touted compatibility :)

The tape was only ever used in the LTO4 drive tho and hadnt been appended to from an LTO3 device.
I used an LTO3 device to do the restore and actually had no problems .
I have restored LTO3 tapes that were written to on an LTO4 device.

In the job, use the newly created set as the target .
I would create a media set such as Year End or whatever and add the tapes you want available to that set.
May write to the B2D folders instead of the tapes.
Sometime over the Thanksgiving holiday, my Netbackup installation decided that it no longer liked the tapes in my library. It had worked fine a week ago with no changes that I can think of, besides moving the new week's set of tapes into the NetBackup...

Resetting the volume expiration.
Turns out that an earlier attempt to set the expiration date of the data on the tapes accidentally set the volume expiration date, so all of those tapes were expired.
I have about 120 DLTape-VS1 tapes and 2 drives that are all near the end of their retention period, and have been superseded by newer technology. I would like to donate the whole package to my local FreeGeek organization in the hopes that someone else...

It seems there are different types for different tape drives.
With LTO tapes it is impossible to write them again/erase-dlt.asp There are probably others.
With one tape if you can write it after degaussing.
So when a tape gets physically stuck (LTO-3), does anyone have any recommendations for getting it out if you can get to it from the bay? Right now, I have been using a screw driver and sticking it into the little area that is for write protection: This...
