What Would YOU Do With This Cabinet?
Flaesh's link isn't English but gives some nice pics of how to brace it. If it were me I'd throw a PA driver in there along with a small plate amp and build two satellites to complement it running from your Heathkit. Voila, instant system with enough gusto to impress your friends. Cabinet Dimensions. source
Damping Horns?
While searching for Klipsch speakers on eBay I ran across a guy that had applied a thick coating of putty to the horns and the metal frame of the woofer. Anyone ever heard of such a thing and what does it do to the sound of the speaker? I would think it would change the sound of the horn the most and possibly defeat the purpose the horn design. Making or buying cabinets?
If you have the time and inclination you can build your own cabs. If you dont have the skills or the gear to do it, your local cabinet shop will be able to do the job for you at a reasonable cost. I have recently finished 4 L150's that I built up from parts. I sourced the parts through Ebay and even purchased 2 L150's complete and got the guy to strip them for me and just send the speakers and electronics. Living in New Zealand, the cost to get cabinets here is huge money and just isnt worth the bother. Also, when you build yourself, you can customise the finish or even the shape of the box. And if you want to build them into a wall or ceiling space you can build a basic box with a nice front on it and still get the benefits of the JBL designed cabinet. Damping Horns. source
Passive PA speaker recommendations?
I have been using a pair of JBL SRX715's for several years now, and have been very happy with them. Excellent sounding box, pretty light, 2-position pole cups, can be switched to bi-amp easily, good power handling and reasonably priced. John I would never even of Thought. source
Model 19 drivers on 846 speakers?
From all I have gathered, which I will now put in a 'nutshell', crossing over at a higher level will take out some of the 'honking' of the horns, smooth them out and ease your listening experience. Try it, if it isn't a better sound, go back and sell the XO's on Ebay. Model 19 811b horns, sound of tannoy, altec 604, genz benz shenandoah, 10-inch drivers, d140r and pr15.network is n1200.pick some pictures, fostex sigma driver would this be appropriate, horn sewing, pro 10s, shiva x2 subwoofer motors. source
