I experience individual tobaccos themselves? Virginia, perique,
latakia, burley?
Experienced guys talk about the blends, but how do you know how to
pick out the individuals?

To me,
that could certainly be caused by additives in the tobacco and/or less
than perfect air flow through the pipe.
It to an incomplete burning of the tobacco.
