This is a question for Frank though I'd be interested in all opinions and experiences. I'm coming from all solid state. Speakers will be Salk SS8s shortly. The AVA 400/600R amps draw me. I'm curious though about the differences and relative advantages...

I really like the tube....
Each application has relative advantages and challenges.
I cant speak to Van Alstine amps directly, but I have owned solid state (Bryston), tube (Audio Valve) and my current tube / solid state hybrids (Monarchy).
I have been reading posts where can use a 12ax7 tube in place of a 6eu7 tube....BUT you have to rewire the tube socket. So a couple of questions if I may: 1) How will it change the sound if at all? 2) Is it worth doing the mod, to be able to use the MUCH...

I'm up straight up mod, and one thats well....
Hmm...interesting idea.
2.) If tube rolling is something you want to do this with my 8802, as I am gonna replace the wafer tube sockets, anyways....
1.) It should not change the sound.
Great idea.

Fri Dec 16, 2011 11:29 am by jjptkd Tube integrated or tube separates? I've been kicking around the idea, for quite some time now, of trying out a tube amp on my Klipsch speakers. Is there any advantage to having separates or are integrated units just...

I have heard some really good integrated tube amps that sound just as good as separates: Tube integrated or tube separates....

Found this while poking about the net. It has a pentode and a triode in the same bottle much like the sweep tubes but looks very small.

Ok, my best friend is a guitar freak. He always talks about how tube amps are the only way to get a quality sounding electric guitar and how solid state amps are just useless for a guitarist! But I'm a bassist... There are such things as tube bass amps...

Defensive shotgun - standard tube vs. extended tube I have a Remington 870 Express with a standard tube (4+1 capacity) and an 18" bead sighted barrel. I am debating whether to put a Scattergun Technologies +2 round extension on it. I would need to drill...

I do not think you would need rounds in the tube...look at all....
I like the standard tube for balance and less weight.
The weight difference is not that noticable.
Personally, I'd rather have the extra 2 rounds.
The extended tube).

I see these in supermarkets but have never bought them; they do not appeal. But I have bought tubes of tomato puree for decades. What are your views on garlic/ginger tubes? "I feel a recipe is only a theme, which an intelligent cook can play each time...

Only....
For tomato paste I'm able to freeze tsps and Tblsps from a can of paste, bag them & use them when needed .
I have used anchovy paste and appreciate it.
Never used them...why use them if you can get fresh? Don't care for the flavour of either of them .
Recently my Universal Audio Solo 610 abruptly stopped working. It still passes a signal but almost all the bottom end is gone. Could this mean I need to replace a tube, or something else?

Unlikely the tube.
Also, check the output cable.
Simple to try before sending it out for service.
This is a little OT, but DS's OT, ST, and ped think he needs tubes in his ears due to constant fluid. We seen the ENT today and he offered me NO advice other than he will put the tubes in his ears if I want him to. Wtf.... There is positives- He may start...

I dont know if there is a diffrence between....
It did not improve Braydens speech at all.
But we did them for infections not for just fluid .
Brayden has had 4 sets of tubes at presant time.
It was worth it.
We did tubes for just that reason.
