Whats the $2 fix? I dont run tubes & both my slicks leak to crazy low air pressures....
The tube will help stiffen the sidewall up even more, I run the stiff sidewall with the tubes and I can help you fix it for $2 and no patches.

I believe you are describing the cutting stock problem.
Wikipedia has a number of references that might help you find clues to an algorithm that works .
This is known as the Cutting Stock problem.

The concept is great, you don't need to take the wheel out to replace a tube, you just slide it in at the valve and then round until it overlaps...

I've noticed in several tube designs that sometimes the tubes used in tone control sections are heated with AC instead of with DC. Why does this not cause hum like it will with the other preamp tubes?

Almost all of use have heard of Ted Stevens trying to describe the Internet with the analogy that it is a series of tubes ( mp3 ). I believe that it likely that some tech person somewhere tried to describe the Internet too him and this was the best analogy...
