I went to my update manager and upgraded my Ubuntu to 9.10. After it was done, it said it needed to restart, and when it did I got a black screen with this message:

I've been reading about Rainbow Tables recently. There's a few webpages that will do a reverse look up for an MD5 hash. Is there any programme on Ubuntu that lets me do this? Is there something in Ubuntu that will let me generate my own rainbow tables...

Unless you have access to HPC infrastructure, you are probably better of downloading already computed tables:
http://rainbowtables.shmoo... .
Try one of these:
John The Ripper
Rainbow Crack
Ophcrack
Generating your own tables takes a lot of computing power .

Another problem I had with Ubuntu clients talking was on the Ubuntu side, ....
In terms of configuring the server and Ubuntu clients, it is the easiest to manage, as no editing of a text file is needed.

It also includes metapackages ubuntu-minimal and ubuntu would like to deal with server stuff....
The default install of a desktop installs the ubuntu-desktop meta-package, which pulls in the normal GUI interface stuff.
That's correct.

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 x64 recently. Up until now I've been on 32 bit Ubuntu. For the first time since installing it, I went and tried to play a Youtube video. There was no sound. So a quick test to the system reveals that nothing will play sound (And...

Why would it work in 9.04 x86 and not 9.10 x64? While booting up, and occasionally with the sound preferences dialog open, I get a loud click (even though it isn't recognising my sound card) .

We have an Ubuntu server vmware-instance which appears to be installed with the 64-bit version.
Unfortunately we now want to move it to a 32-bit only host, so the current installation will not run. The installation is rather tweaked, so I'd really, really...

If that does not work, reinstall Ubuntu and copy the config files over in small batches to see this will not replicate anything you did not install....
Not having done this migration.
I know that it is not only the kernel that is 64-bit in Ubuntu.
