I'm fittting a new dimmer switch that has three terminals, L1, L2 and C.
The cable coming out of the wall has earth, red and black with a red sleeve on it. I know where the earth goes but what about the other two?
BTW, the instructions say 'don't connect...

Live 1 and then Live 2 and C for communal I would say? So assuming... .
I think only one is live and is basically in and out, but i am no expert which wire went to which terminal on the original switch? Erm, I didn't note it .

You can use the html meta refresh:
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content....
The server can not tell the client to reload.
Couldn't you just add a javascript block with window.reload() in it?
Here is some useful info on how to do this correctly in Web Forms .
