The reason....
Your class will generate compile time errors in Strict mode because you're trying to access the numChildren and getChildAt methods, which aren't available on the DisplayObject class, but first on one of it's subclasses, DisplayObjectContainer .

Not a keyword, though....
Rather than using '.' as your directory, refer to its absolute path:
for file in DirectoryWalker(os.path.abspath('.')): print file
Also, I'd recommend using a word other than 'file', because it means something in the python language .
